These magnificent marine mammals are characterized by their large size, with adults reaching lengths of up to 50 feet and weighing around 40 tons. Humpback calves, or baby humpbacks, are born after a gestation period of approximately 11 months and are nurtured and protected by their mothers. Humpback families, consisting of a mother and her calf, form strong bonds and engage in various social behaviors, such as breaching, tail slapping, and singing complex songs. These family units play a crucial role in the survival and well-being of humpback whales, ensuring the continuation of their species for generations to come.
